DRM & Conditional Access

Description

Conditional access systems are a combination of hardware and software that provide a broadcaster with control of a user's access to a content delivery service. A satellite broadcaster will use a conditional access solution that encrypts the broadcasted signal. Only subscribers with the correct hardware in their set top box will be able to unscramble the signal for viewing.DRM systems are software solutions that enable control of what a user can do with a piece of digital content in order to prevent free distribution without compensation to the rights holder.Allowable uses will depend on the restrictions of the package a user has signed up for with the end retailer. These can include the number of times playable, time length available and the number of devices that the media is playable on.DRM is a software solution that uses both server side software and a software client on the users device.
