Sony is releasing a video delivery service for European PS3 and PSP users, allowing them to rent or purchase movies online. Sony claims that users can download movies straight to their PS3 or PSP consoles from an online store of more than 2,000 titles. Movies are available for purchase from EUR7.99 (USD11.86) or to rent from EUR1.99 (USD2.95). According to Sony, customers have up to 14 days to watch a rented film, or 48 hours once playback is started. The service launched in the US last year and is now live in France, Germany, Spain and the UK.

Online DVD rental service Netflix is also available on the PS3, requiring a special Blu-Ray disc to access the company’s movie store. However, Netflix says it is developing a “Watch Instantly” feature to allow users to stream movies without the disc.
