Android's US market share increased nearly four percentage points during the first quarter of this year, from 47.3% to 51%, according to new research from comScore. Apple's remains the second-largest smartphone player in the market with 30.7%, while BlackBerry manufacturer Research In Motion saw its share dip by a further 3.7 points, controlling 12.3% of the space. Meanwhile, comScore asserts that Samsung is still the leading handset manufacturer in the country with a 26% market share, ahead of nearest rival LG, which has 19.3% of the market. Overall, the number of US smartphone users has expanded 9% since last December to 106m, according to comScore.
