AT&T is launching a mobile app to support its internet TV offering U-Verse that will allow customers to watch select televisions shows on their iPhone or BlackBerry Touch. Customers can use their smartphones to record, download and watch television shows. There is no extra charge for the service, but it will only be available to customers on more expensive U-Verse packages, offering an incentive to subscribe or upgrade. The company will also give customers who upgrade a USD75 iTunes gift card.
AT&T plans to continue to increase the number of TV programmes available, but it is not known when the service will come to the iPad and other handsets. According to a July 22 statement, AT&T added 209,000 U-verse customers in Q2, ending the quarter with 2.5m overall.
