News sites see record popularity in April among US internet users

The numbers of Americans accessing news sites soared 12%in April to a record high, with nearly five in every six US internet users visiting a general news site, according to comScore's monthly report on web activity. Also receiving a high number of hits were style and beauty sites, growing 9%. Of the news sites, Yahoo!-ABC News Network saw the most visitors at 183m, while Glam Style was top of fashion and beauty with 83.6m visitors. When ranking the top 50 web properties, comScore placed Google first with 189m visitors, Microsoft second with 171.2m, Yahoo! sites third at 170.9m and Facebook and AOL in fourth and fifth place. Blogging site Tumblr entered the top 50, at 47, for the first time.
