Apple is likely to launch updated versions of its range of iPods that include camera and camcorder capabilities, according to various rumours traced back to its Asian suppliers.
Images leaked to the web, supposedly showing cases for Apple's updates to its iPod Touch and iPod Nano lines, include holes in the casing, consistent with where a camera could be placed. Separate reports claim that Apple is set to include cameras in all lines of iPod, except from the iPod Shuffle, with some Asian sources claiming that Apple has already placed a large order for the small cameras.
The rumours come a month after the launch of the iPhone 3G S, which gave the mobile device video capturing and editing capabilities for the first time, largely thanks to updates to the phone's operating system. Commentators speculate that adding the same video-camera capabilities to the iPod Touch, which runs the same operating system, could be a relatively straightforward update.
Rumours indicate that the cheaper lines of iPod will include camera, but not video-capturing capabilities. Apple is yet to speak publically about any of the rumoured updates.
