Microsoft and Yahoo! are once again talking, but the discussions now focus on a partial acquisition of the internet company, rather than negotiating a total takeover.
In a statement, Microsoft says it is "considering and has raised with Yahoo! an alternative that would involve a transaction with Yahoo! but not an acquisition of all of Yahoo!." Additional details weren't released.
Microsoft called off a planned acquisition of Yahoo! on May 3, two months after it first launched its bid. Last week, billionaire investor Carl Icahn attempted to push Yahoo! back into talks with Microsoft by purchasing 10m of the internet shares and proposing his own slate of Yahoo! directors.
