MMO games publisher Turbine is raising USD40m in Series C funding, making its total funding raised USD88m. Interestingly, this investment takes place at a time when most Western massively multiplayer online games, whether targeting a casual or hard-core audience, are moving to a business model based on advertising and in-game micro-transactions. By contrast, Turbine is a subscription-based MMORG, and competes on that ground with the likes of World of Warcraft. So why are investors finding Turbine attractive?
