MySpace is targeting the casual games market by launching a new gaming platform, a gaming-specific iPhone app and new tools for developers. The company claims between 20% and 30% of MySpace users play games daily and the network wants to increase this figure to a 50% participation level.

The MySpace Games Gallery platform aims to encourage the discovering, sharing and rating of new games through the provision of personalised recommendations, gaming charts and notifications from friends' streams. The Neon iPhone app provides real-time notifications that can be shared with friends and allows the remote installation of games direct to the phone. MySpace hopes the integration of a powerful 3D gaming engine called Unity will encourage developers to create more sophisticated and visually rich games.
