Foursquare had its biggest day ever this week, breaking the company's record of 275,000 check-ins per day which it set last week, according to a company tweet. It could mean Foursquare has exceeded 300,000 check-ins, when a user registers their location on the network. A month ago Foursquare set a record of 1.2m check-ins per week, which was double the previous month's check-ins.

The New-York based location-based network says it now has more than 500,000 users, 16 employees, 1.4m venues and 1,200 venues offering ‘specials'. It launched at last year's SXSW event. Gowalla is Foursquare's main competitor. Both location services have revamped their websites and launched new iPhone apps.
