Amazon says it has extended the battery life of its Kindle e-book reader by 85% with a software update, meaning consumers can use the device with Wi-Fi for seven days on only one charge. The firm says the Kindle will work for two weeks without Wi-Fi turned on. Newly shipped devices will include this feature and older devices will have the update delivered via wireless. Amazon says the battery boost is "the result of a six month firmware improvement and testing programme".
In addition, the Kindle can now support PDF files and also allows users to manually rotate the screen between portrait and landscape views.
