Research in Motion (RIM)'s app store, BlackBerry App World, has reached 3bn downloads since its launch a little more than three years ago, an average of more than 2.5m downloads a day. Additionally, the quantity of daily downloads seems to be steadily increasingly, with RIM reaching 1bn downloads after 786 days, 2bn downloads after 210 days, and 3bn after only 176 days.
RIM did not hit the 3bn mark as quickly as its two largest rival app stores, with Apple scoring 3bn downloads less than 18 months after the launch of its App Store and the Android Market doing so after about 27 months. Nevertheless, the news comes as a rare positive for RIM as the BlackBerry line struggles to compete in the crowded smartphone market.
