YouTube redesign focuses on search

YouTube is placing a much greater emphasis on the website’s search capabilities with the launch of its redesigned homepage. The new version makes search a priority with a large search box and navigational links similar to the Google.com masthead. The revamp also includes a new layout, with the left side dedicated to finding videos and the right to organising users’ clips.

The redesign is thought to be an attempt by YouTube to bring in more search queries, and possibly generate revenue from its results pages. The site is now ranked as the second-largest search engine in the US, attracting 3.6bn search queries in June according to research by comScore.
