Spot Runner to slash 60 more staff

Advertising agency Spot Runner told its employees last week that it will axe a further 60 staff in what will be the company’s third round of layoffs in less than a year. Last August, 50 people lost their jobs and a further 115 were sacked last December.

The round of redundancies is large enough to trigger the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) Act of 1988, which requires companies to give employees 60 days notice for any mass layoff. A mass layoff is defined as 33% or more of a company’s active workforce. This suggests that Spot Runner, which once had more than 500 employees, is now down to less than 180 staff. After these new layoffs take effect, Spot Runner will employ fewer than 120 people.
