SPOTLIGHT: The social gaming explosion

FarmVille, a simple social game that allows users to manage a virtual farm, recently claimed to have more than 60m unique users. It is the most popular application on Facebook and is arguably the most popular computer game in the world. Zynga, the company behind FarmVille, may be earning in excess of USD150m a year from its social games, and Playfish, a social gaming rival, was recently acquired by Electronic Arts (EA) for as much as USD400m.
