HouseValues.com buys into ActiveRain for USD2.75m

ActiveRain, a social networking and blogging platform for real estate professionals, says it has received USD2.75m in funding from HouseValues.com. HouseValues.com's website allows US users to find their home's current market value and a suggested selling price. With its funding move, the company is taking a minority stake in ActiveRain. Both firms are based in the Seattle area. Last Nov, HouseValues.com acquired Realty Generator, a provider of marketing and technology solutions to US real estate brokerage companies. ActiveRain says the cash infusion will help it fend off potential attacks from competitors such as Trulia and Zillow.com. What's unclear at this point is if the new funding and alliance will in any way affect ActiveRain's ongoing lawsuit against Move.com, owner of Realtor.com. Move.com last year pulled out of a deal to acquire ActiveRain. ActiveRain is now seeking USD33m in damages, alleging that Move.com stole confidential information that it used to create and maintain the Realtor.com blog network.
