Telegraph Media Group (TMG) is launching a new digital division aimed at driving online revenues for the company. TMG's editor-in-chief, Will Lewis, will set up and head the new unit, while retaining his current role. He will also oversee TMG's existing digital business. Lewis will be replaced as editor of The Daily Telegraph by his deputy Tony Gallagher.
Lewis' appointment indicates the importance TMG now places on its digital division. The company has reportedly spent millions on its website, which now pulls in just over 31m unique visitors a month. According to recent figures it is the second most-popular UK newspaper site, behind Guardian.co.uk, which has 31.7m users.
