Around 75% of all HDTVs will connect to the internet by 2015, up from the 25% of TVs that are currently web enabled, according to research firm Park Associates.
Revenue from transactions such as online gaming and video-on-demand services will be worth more than USD8bn by 2015, according to the firm. Google and Apple are among the major firms venturing into the market, with companies such as Hulu, Facebook and Netflix developing TV apps. According to online video platform Sidereel, the number of viewers watching TV online tripled in 2010.
