Apple prepares iPod with camera and microphone – Rumour

Apple is reportedly readying a new version of the iPod Touch with a camera and microphone that could go on sale in the next two to three months. Rumours indicate that Apple has ordered the cameras and that its Chinese factories are already manufacturing models with the features integrated.

The updates could enable the iPod Touch to understand voice commands, capture video and images, and work with more of the applications on sale in the Apple App Store. The inclusion of the microphone would enable the iPod to take advantage of voice-over-IP (VoIP) apps, and could allow the device to become a Wi-Fi mobile phone.

Analysts believe that adding camera software to the iPod Touch would be a relatively straightforward update. The device runs on the same operating system as Apple’s iPhone 3G S, which already includes video capturing and editing capabilities.

Apple has declined to comment on the rumours.
