Apple is partnering with some of the US's largest studios to release movies on iTunes on the same day as they start selling on DVD. Under the deal, iTunes will offer upcoming productions from Fox, Walt Disney Studios, Warner Bros, Paramount, Universal, Sony Pictures, Lionsgate and New Line, along with independent studios Magnolia and Image Entertainment. Apple also introduced a new feature that allows users to buy movies from Apple TV. This deal, and in particular flat pricing negotiations, has been ‘cooking’ for some time now and both the market and existing VoD competition, and regardless of the platform, has expected Apple to beef up its iTunes content collection, both in terms of breadth and depth of content. While this move could possibly have a massive boost on Apple’s sales and make it the No.1 online content destination (and especially boost its devices sale!), it could hit DVD retailers and other online VoD services hard:
