Sky is unveiling Europe's first 3D TV channel for the Barclays Premier League game between Manchester United and Chelsea on April 3. Sky 3D is planning to show five more Premier League games before the end of the current season as well as the Coca-Cola Football League Play-Off Finals from Wembley at the end of May.

Sky says more than 1,000 pubs and clubs across the UK and Ireland have signed up for Sky 3D for the launch date. On the launch day, Sky will screen a showreel showcasing the best of Sky 3D, which includes a variety of programming. It will also be available at no extra cost to residential customers who subscribe to Sky's top channels and HD pack.

Sony, Samsung, LG and Panasonic said last week they plan to have 3D TVs on sale soon, maybe by the end of this month. Sky 3D is compatible with all 3D TVs being introduced by these manufacturers and works with both ‘active' and ‘passive' 3D formats. Sky says it will offer 3D movies, sport, documentaries, entertainment and arts content later this year.
