Virtualisation software developer VMware is acquiring B-hive, a startup that helps manage the performance of virtual applications, for an undisclosed sum. VMware will integrate B-hive's technology into its own offering. The acquisition is VMware's third since its USD1.1bn IPO last Aug. The firm has already purchased Swiss virtualisation software specialist Dunes and infrastructure software provider Foedus.

Deal Details

"As more of our customers move towards virtualising business critical applications like SAP, Oracle and Microsoft Exchange messaging, they'll need this kind of tool to track and manage application performance," Bogomil Balkansky, the company's senior director of product marketing, tells InternetNews.com. Last Oct, VMware found that 54% of its clients were running enterprise apps on virtual machines.

B-hive was founded in 2005 and is based in California, with a research and development centre in Israel. The deal is expected to close in the third quarter.
