US business magazine Fortune has named Steve Jobs ‘CEO of the decade’ for his achievements at the helm of Apple. Co-founder Jobs has expanded Apple’s brand into music, film and mobile phones, while continuing the company’s growth in computing. Fortune credits Jobs with increasing Apple’s worth from USD5bn in 2000 to its current value of USD170bn, making it a head-to-head rival with Google. Jobs made a return to Apple in 1997 after resigning in 1985 and has since been CEO of the company.
Apple has 275 retail stores worldwide and a 73% share of the global MP3 player market thanks to its iPod products. The company’s venture into the smartphone market has achieved significant success with the iPhone handset.
