The global market for mobile web 2.0 services, such as social networks and location-based apps, will be worth USD22.4bn in 2013, up from USD5.5bn this year, says Juniper Research. The firm predicts that global revenues for mobile social networks and user generated content sites will rocket from USD1.8bn in 2008 to USD11.2bn in 2013, accounting for 50% of the market, while growth in search and instant messaging will be slower.
"Combining the power of the social network map - namely: 'who I know, how I know and where I know' - with that of mobility, presents the greatest opportunity for revenue generation," Juniper Research analyst Ian Chard.
