Nokia is slashing the price of its flagship smartphone, the Lumia 900, in the US just three months after its launch, as the firm attempts to kick-start adoption of the device in the country. The smartphone, which runs on Microsoft’s Windows Phone OS, is now available for USD49.99 with a two-year contract on AT&T. Nokia is dismissing notions that the move reflects concerns regarding sales, stating that the move is a normal part of the product cycle. Some commentators claim that the price drop is in response to the news that the current Lumia handsets are not compatible with Microsoft’s forthcoming Windows Phone 8 update, denting the appeal of the soon-to-be out-dated devices. Nokia has shifted approximately 330,000 Lumia units in the US in the four months the line has been on sale, according to research from Asymco analyst Horace Dediu, using recent stats published by Nielsen and comScore.
