Online video chat company PalTalk is buying virtual phone number firm Vumber for an undisclosed sum. PalTalk hopes the deal will boost its revenues and differentiate its services from those of rivals such as Skype by offering consumers extra privacy and security via Vumber's disposable, virtual numbers. A virtual number is a phone number linked to a mobile or home phone that allows users to be contacted without sharing a personal contact number.

Deal Details

PalTalk and Vumber had forged a partnership in 2008 and the acquisition comes as Vumber encountered financial difficulties. PalTalk will acquire some staff, all hardware, two trademarks and a patent on anonymous calling as part of the deal.
