BankSimple pulls in USD2.9m for online banking

BankSimple has raised USD2.9m in a first funding round from First Round Capital, IA Ventures, Village Ventures, SV Angel and individual backers Nauiokas Park and Jerry Neumann. The new investment brings the total raised by the startup to USD3.1m. BankSimple, which is yet to launch, is developing a platform to make online banking simpler. It is also building smartphone apps to enable users to get real-time updates on account balances and overdraft limits. The firm says it is aiming for an invite-only beta launch by October.
