UK digital album sales climb 14.8% but still fail to offset physical decline

UK digital album sales climbed 14.8% year on year in 2012 to top 30.5m but failed to offset the continuing decline of physical sales, according to new figures from the British Phonographic Industry (BPI). Physical album sales dropped 19.5% year on year to 69.4m, driving an overall fall of 11.2% for the year. Digital now accounts for 30.4% of overall album sales, according to the BPI, though this is still some way behind physical.
