More than half of Christmas shoppers to buy on mobile this year

Just more than half of consumers worldwide are ‘likely' or ‘certain' to buy gifts using a mobile device this Christmas, according to a new report from mobile ad firm BuzzCity, which forecasts 2012 will be the biggest year for holiday shopping on mobile yet. Nor does it seem that consumers are just making one-off purchases on mobile, with the report forecasting that around a third of global shoppers will spend more than half of their gift budgets on smartphones or tablets. The survey, which focuses primarily on smartphone use, claims that 73% of those polled are planning to shop on mobile for the first time this festive season, suggesting a growing willingness among consumers to make purchases on smartphones and tablets.
