Apple wants to bring full on-demand service to set-top box – Rumour

Apple is reportedly looking to make it possible for consumers to watch any programme at any time via a set-top box, as it attempts to expand on its Apple TV offering and broaden its footprint in the market. According to Wall Street Journal sources, the firm is proposing a new device with digital video recording features, which can be used as a set-top box to record programmes and then stream them on demand from the cloud, even after they have started. The move, which would blur the line between live programming and on-demand content, is designed to simply accessing programming, say the sources. The rumours follow reports that the firm is in negotiations with major US cable companies over bringing live TV shows to its Apple TV device as speculation as to Apple's plans for the living room continue to mount.
