Acer's profits rise to USD14.5m despite declining revenue

Acer has surpassed Dell as the world's third-largest PC manufacturer in terms of units shipped, with net profits rising from USD11.2m in Q1 to USD14.5m in Q2. However, revenues declined 2.2% from Q1 to USD3.7bn due to turbulent economic conditions across Europe, the US, China and Asia Pacific, but the figure still marks an 8.3% year on year increase. Acer says it will begin shipping devices for the new Windows 8 operating system in August and September, which is expected to reverse the company's declining revenues in Q3.
