Spotify alone cannot save the music industry, says BPI CEO

The growth of Spotify alone will not be enough to restore the fortunes of the music industry, says BPI CEO Geoff Taylor, arguing that labels need to partner with as many digital music services as possible to boost their revenues. Speaking at the Westminster Media Forum in London, Taylor says labels should make deals across multiple digital offerings including subscription and ad-supported streaming services rather than putting all their eggs in one basket. He also says that demand for legal track downloads should not be underestimated, despite speculation that the industry is moving from a model based on owning music to accessing it.
