YouTube revenues to surpass USD3.6bn this year, says analyst

YouTube’s gross revenues could surpass USD3.6bn this year, according to Citi analyst, Mark Mahaney, indicating that the Google-owned video network is performing far better financially than previously thought. According to an All Things Digital report, Google execs are assuring shareholders that the company is making money from YouTube, and a separate research note from Mahaney claims that the video site could pocket as much as USD2.4bn after distributing various costs to content and distribution partners. Mahaney’s comments are in contrast to the long-running belief that Google is still struggling to generate a profit from YouTube, despite it being the largest video network in the world.
