Facebook rose from an idea cooked up in Mark Zuckerberg’s dorm room at Harvard University to one of the biggest tech companies in the world. Along the way it has changed dramatically, from a site used to rate university friends to a platform from which users can share photos, play games and interact across the web. FEBRUARY 2004 - THEFACEBOOK LAUNCHES
Mark Zuckerberg launches Thefacebook, a website that lets users create a profile for themselves and connect with their friends. It was initially limited to students at Harvard University, but quickly expanded to other universities including Stanford, Columbia and Yale.
