Google's Chrome has outpaced Microsoft's Internet Explorer (IE) to become the world's most popular internet browser during May. Chrome comprised 32.43% of the market, leaving IE with 32.12% and Firefox with 25.55%, according to a report from StatCounter. However, IE remains the most popular browser in the UK and the US. Firefox usage grew by 0.6% since April at IE's expense, say analysts.
Speculation regarding two browsers switching places started after Chrome outperformed IE for the whole week earlier this month. However, NetMarketShare, an analytics company that uses a different methodology from StatCounter, has not yet confirmed Chrome's success.
