Facebook stands to make more than USD1.2bn from mobile advertising in the US and its five largest European markets in the first year alone, according to figures from analyst firm Mobile Squared, suggesting mobile is a huge untapped revenue generator for the social network. Despite pulling in more than USD3.1bn in ad revenues last year, Facebook is yet to roll out ads on its mobile platform, admitting in its recent IPO filing that it is still to generate “meaningful revenue” from mobile. However, the firm is widely expected to introduce mobile ads in the next couple of months as it seeks to monetise its growing mobile user base.
