Google is reportedly set to make its first venture into hardware manufacturing with an as-yet unspecified home entertainment device, as the search giant attempts to better challenge Apple and Amazon in a range of different markets. Google submitted an application to the Federal Communications Commission, dated January, informing that it is testing the device, which will have both Wi-Fi and Bluetooth capabilities. Commentators are speculating that the device will act as a form of entertainment hub, streaming content such as music to consumers’ devices throughout the home. The move is a marked change of strategy for Google, which is yet to produce any hardware of its own, but the strategy is indicative of the company’s recent efforts to adjust its business under new CEO Larry Page.
