Big data management startup WibiData has raised USD5m from New Enterprise Associates and Google CEO Eric Schmidt, acting as an angel. The site's co-founder is a Hadoop pioneer, and WibiData - formerly known as Odiago - uses the Hadoop software framework, as well as other open-source tools including HBase and Avro, to provide web data analytics software focussed on personalising profiles. California-based WibiData is already used by Wikipedia to analyse contributor behaviour. The cash will be used to grow the company's product, which is still in beta, and to expand into a variety of industries including e-commerce, gaming and mobile.
