Uniiverse nets USD750,000 for 'collaborative living' site

Wed Feb 8 2012, 11:22 AM

Uniiverse, which describes itself as an online ‘collaborative living' platform, has raised USD750,000 of seed funding from undisclosed investors to launch its service to the public. The site offers users the ability to advertise services, spaces, or items they are willing to share, either for cash or for free, in a move towards bolstering the ‘sharing economy’. Although the site also offers social features, such as profiles and a ratings system, allowing users to see what other users have posted on the site, the company emphasises that it is not building a social network. The site lets anybody post a listing for free, but adds a variable transaction fee to the listing’s price, which is charged to the buyer, part of which covers credit card processing costs.
