Pinterest becomes fastest standalone site to hit 10m visitors

Pinterest is the fastest standalone site to notch up 10m monthly unique visitors in the US ever, according to new data from comScore, reaching the milestone just nine months after launch. The research firm says that Pinterest hit 11.7m monthly uniques in January this year, up from 7.5m in December and 10 times the 1.04m visitors that came to the site six months earlier, in what is being described as a "hockey stick growth curve". Although the data doesn't count Google+ or Yahoo! sites, the soaring uptake bodes well for Pinterest, which allows users to ‘pin' images related to certain interests to the site. Meanwhile, separate reports indicate that Pinterest may already making money from referral commissions by linking some pins directly to third party e-commerce sites.
