HBO investing USD10m in Australian video service Quickflix

US television network HBOis investing USD10m in QuickFlix, a DVD and streaming video rental service based in Australia. Pending approval from QuickFlix’s board, HBO will take a 15.7% stake in the company, as well as appointing a representative to the QuickFlix board. QuickFlix’s streaming video-on-demand service is integrated into a variety of devices, including smart TVs, PlayStation 3, Blu-ray players and a number of mobile devices running on Google’s Android operating system. The service hosts content from Sony Pictures, Warner Brothers, NBC, Universal and HBO. The firm claims to have 94,000 paying subscribers and posted USD4.3m in revenue in Q4.
