Facebook is partnering with mobile payments firm Bango in a move that suggests that the social network may introduce payments and carrier billing to its mobile offering. Bango confirmed the deal to the stock market, although it warned that it is “too early in the relationship to accurately forecast the level of business which it may generate”. Analysts believe that Facebook will use Bango’s technology to enable users to pay for apps and virtual goods via carrier billing, potentially boosting the number of users spending money via mobile. The move illustrates Facebook’s renewed focus on generating significant mobile revenue after it conceded in its IPO filing that it is yet to produce any “meaningful revenue” from its 425m-strong mobile user base.
