Tue Feb 7 2012, 15:58 PM

Samsung is to launch the first of its new range of flagship smartphones, dubbed the Galaxy S3, in May, as the South Korean manufacturer aims to maintain its market-leading position in the global smartphone market. According to a report in the Electronic Times News, the S3 will be slimmer than the Galaxy SII at 7mm and will run on version 4.0 of Google's Android operating system. Samsung is planning to release other models in the series, including one device with a better camera, throughout the year as the firm prepares to pit its latest offering against Apple's forthcoming iPhone 5, expected this summer.
