Google India is taking down web pages deemed offensive to the Indian authorities, following a court case that saw the Indian government pressuring internet outfits to censor photographs, video or text considered "anti-religious" or "anti-social". Facebook, Blogspot and Google-owned YouTube are also under pressure to remove offensive material, with a New Delhi court giving the trio a fortnight to suggest further steps to police their networks. As it stands, local authorities say US standards will not suffice for India's 100m internet users, but communications minister Sachin Pilot insists that the moves do not amount to censorship.
