Filesharing site BTJunkie shuts down

Tue Feb 7 2012, 11:07 AM

Filesharing site BTJunkie has shut down following the MegaUpload arrests, in a development that seems to represent a further victory for the entertainment industry against online file-sharing. The site, which hosted links to BitTorrent downloads, left the message, “This is the end of the line my friends. The decision does not come easy, but we’ve decided to voluntarily shut down. We’ve been fighting for years for your right to communicate, but it’s time to move on.” Unlink Megaupload.com, BTJunkie did not host files for download itself, but linked to torrent files offering P2P downloads. Founded in 2005, it has been one of the most popular filesharing websites. Although the site has never been publicly investigated, it is censored from Google’s search results.
