Amazon is reportedly considering openings its first physical store in Seattle before the end of the year in a bid to boost sales of its e-readers and tablets. Industry blog Good E-Reader says insiders claim that the opening will coincide with the first ‘Amazon Exclusive' book titles from the company's new publishing division and the launch of its second tablet as it goes head-to-head with Apple's upcoming iPad 3. After pre-emptive public refusals from a number of US book retailers, including Barnes & Noble, to stock the upcoming physical Amazon titles, opening its own shops may be a natural step forwards for the e-commerce giant. In order to avoid publicity, Amazon is contracting a 'shell company' based in Germany to design the store layout.
