The UK’s online economy is worth GBP82bn (USD129.4bn) annually, equalling 5.7% of the country’s GDP, according to new research from AT Kearney in conjunction with Vodafone. The lion’s share of revenue is derived from e-commerce and mobile commerce, according to the consultancy firm, contributing GBP45bn (USD70.9bn) to the country’s coffers, while services such as broadband, combined with online advertising and device manufacturing accounts for a further GBP37bn (USD58.3bn). The research comes ahead of the British government’s Communications Bill which will look at how the internet economy should be regulated in the coming years.
