News Corp’s tablet-only publication, The Daily, has now been around for a year, amassing 100,000 paying readers and becoming the third-highest grossing app in Apple’s iPad app store in 2011. Originally launched solely on the iPad, the publication has since expanded to a number of Android-based tablets and News Corp has plans to bring it to smartphones over the coming months. The figures and expansions plans all suggest that the bold move to bring out a publication only available on mobile devices could be paying off, with The Daily slowing building up its user base and heading towards profitability.
