Details of the upcoming update to Microsoft's Windows Phone (WP) operating system have been leaked online in a video only intended for release to the firm's partners. The video shows the director of WP8, Joe Belfiore, outlining details of the OS including support for NFC technology and content sharing with devices including PCs. The new OS, codenamed ‘Apollo', will also support new screen resolutions and removable microSD card storage, as well as enterprise features such as BitLocker encryption and the ability to shield phone owners from apps using firewalls. The platform will share a lot of components with Microsoft's PC OS, Windows 8, enabling developers to use much of the same code for apps across tablets, PCs and smartphones.
