Apple is now the third-largest mobile phone manufacturer globally, overtaking both LG and ZTE in Q4 as demand for the latest iteration of the iPhone, the 4S, boosted sales, according to the latest report from IDC. Apple shipped 37m phones in the period, up 128% year on year, with its share of the worldwide market more than doubling to 8.7%. Apple is the only manufacturer in the top five that only makes smartphones, with the results capping an impressive quarter for Apple after the manufacturer overtook Samsung to become the largest smartphone maker globally in Q4.
